Sam Dedetoku (meaning Glory of the Morning) is from Okrika in Rivers State. He was born in Lagos at National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi and is the last born of a family of eight. Sam grew up briefly in Sapele before relocating to Port Harcourt where he has lived all his life. His dad was a soldier, who fought in the civil war and was in the medical corps of the Nigerian Army before his death in 1972.
He was a former lecturer at the University of Lagos. Now, he lectures in the Department of Theatre Arts in the University of Port Harcourt.
His first love is lecturing before he joined the Nollywood industry. Now, he is back to what he loves to do best which is lecturing.
He is married with three children. His wife who is a teacher and linguist is also a graduate (BSc and MSc) of the University of Port Harcourt.
